NEET-PG 2026 to Introduce Aadhaar and Iris Authentication: A New Era of Secure Medical Entrance Examinations

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced a significant change for NEET-PG 2026. Candidates will now undergo Aadhaar-based authentication during registration and on the day of the examination. If Aadhaar verification is unsuccessful, iris-based biometric authentication may be used as an alternative.
The move comes as part of a broader effort to strengthen the integrity of medical entrance examinations following concerns over impersonation, unfair means, and examination security in recent years.
What Has Changed?
Under the new guidelines, candidates are required to provide their Aadhaar details while completing the application process and ensure that their Aadhaar is "unlocked" before reporting to the examination centre.
On the day of the examination, identity verification will include Aadhaar-based authentication. If Aadhaar authentication cannot be completed, for example, due to fingerprint issues or technical reasons, NBEMS may verify the candidate's identity using iris recognition, a biometric technology that identifies individuals based on the unique patterns in the coloured part of the eye.
Candidates have also been advised not to apply henna (mehndi), ink, paint, colour, or other substances on their fingers or palms, as these may interfere with biometric verification.

If fingerprint-based Aadhaar authentication cannot be completed, iris verification provides an effective alternative without unnecessarily delaying the candidate's entry into the examination.
